According to Bersin by Deloitte’s recent report, Predictions for 2014, “the theme for 2014 technology is integration, ease of use, and data… Solution providers are rushing to make their systems easy to use, mobile-enabled, and integrated with core HRMS.”
This is good news for learning professionals out there. In the past, ease-of-use was once considered an innovative luxury—however in the near future, this may become an industry standard.
Today’s learners need to know what they should be doing when entering a learning management system (LMS) for the first time. A common struggle for these learners is a lack of to-do list, poor visual design and user interface to guide them to the right resources. Intuitive search and refinement functionality can help solve that issue for learners but not every system is on par with typical search engines.
When developing Skillport® 8, the learner experience was a top priority. One of our primary goals is to enable easy access to relevant learning assets. Several aspects of the learner interface support this goal including a visually appealing design, intrinsic tablet support and the enhanced search functionality.
But perhaps no feature better enables the learner to quickly access relevant resources than the new unified catalog available under the “Browse the Library” tab in Skillport 8.
Across Skillsoft’s wide range of learning solutions, we offer tens of thousands of different courses, books, videos and other learning resources.
Organizing these resources into logical groupings that allow at-a-glance access is critical for discovery. Our customers can always tailor the library to their own needs so the discovery aspect is optimized for their population.
The “unified” topic hierarchy used in Skillport 8 incorporates the best of existing catalogs and topic trees from earlier versions of Skillport and Skillsoft® Books24x7®, along with new enhancements to ensure that all learning resources can be accommodated and effectively displayed. Customers can add their own topics to accommodate their custom content or add custom content under the existing topics for added flexibility.
Social tools are another way learners can make informed decisions within an LMS. Comments from others, a high number of recommendations enable users to find the most relevant content—a very popular feature among our customer base!
Community and collaboration is woven throughout our learner interface, encouraging participation and bringing organizational context across a wide range of learning content. The community features in Skillport 8 leverage the 3+ years of experience we have deploying our award-winning social learning feature set, inGenius®, into the programs of over 350 clients around the world.
